I repair, tune and build instruments: pipe organs, pianos, vintage synths and keyboards, all the way to nyckelharpas, hurdy-gurdies and medieval portative organs. Workshop in Lugo (Ravenna), working across Italy and abroad.
Who I am
I build things because I love shaping nature. I repair them because I love the idea that no story should go to waste.
I'm Luca: an organ builder, a luthier, a technician, a keeper. I step in quickly to bring the instrument you love back to its best.
You won't find a linear CV, because my story isn't linear. Some people are empathetic towards others: I am towards instruments. Being a musician first, I don't stop at the technical side – I know what a player needs.
I've spent much of my life watching master craftsmen and learning with my eyes. Studying electronics and a long career as a technician widened the range of what I can repair: I bridge past and future, with craftsmanship and a level of care that's hard to find elsewhere in Italy.
People know me as the madman who built a house around an organ. We can argue about the madness, but one thing is certain: my love for pipe organs defied the laws of architecture. Now we share this space, which is both temple and workshop.
What I do
Pipe organ tuning and voicing
Tuning and voicing done strictly by hand, with cone tuners made in the workshop for a precision that would otherwise be impossible. The metal is corrected without stress or deformation.
Pipe organ cleaning and maintenance
Routine maintenance and major repairs of bellows and leatherwork, adjustment of mechanical and electric actions, replacement of electromagnets and cleaning – all on site.
Pianos and early keyboards
Repair, maintenance and tuning of acoustic and digital pianos: keys, felts and hammers, plus keyboards of any period, including harpsichords, spinets and clavichords. I can also visit the patient at home.
Electronic instruments
Repair, servicing and calibration of electronic organs, vintage keyboards, analogue synthesizers and drum machines. The workshop keeps a stock of spare parts that are no longer available anywhere.
Early and folk instruments
Repair and set-up of medieval, Renaissance, traditional and folk instruments: hurdy-gurdy, nyckelharpa, psaltery, bagpipes, harmonium, Celtic harp and anything else that makes a sound. Bring it to me and I'll bring it back to life!
Made-to-measure medieval portative organs
Treat yourself to the wonder of a portative organ built around your needs. Starting from the study of medieval manuscripts, we choose its style, look and size together.
